When should I have my eyes checked after cataract surgery?
We usually recommend waiting until your eye has settled, at around 6 weeks after surgery, before getting an eye test for your new glasses from your optician.
What follows after cataract surgery?
Don’t:
- do not rub your eyes.
- do not allow soap or shampoo to get into your eye.
- do not drive until you get the all-clear from your doctor.
- do not do any strenuous exercise or housework.
- do not wear eye make-up for at least 4 weeks.
- do not fly without seeking advice from your doctor.
Does Medicare pay for follow up visits after cataract surgery?
For example, medically necessary “diagnostic tests” are outside of the package and paid separately. However, a final refraction following cataract surgery is not covered by virtue of the Medicare law, and not bundled with the global surgery package. It may be billed separately to the beneficiary.
How often cataract surgery check up?
Many eye surgeons and their clinical team will perform a review appointment one day after your cataract surgery, one week later, and then a month later. This is to ensure that your eye is healing as expected and your vision is stabilising.
Will I need stronger reading glasses after cataract surgery?
You will of course need reading glasses, which will be an extra +2.5 or so to your distance prescription, so you may need a separate pair of reading glasses or varifocals. Operating on one eye and try and achieve 0d. To balance the other eye, the other eye may be prescribed a contact lens.
