Are freshmen required to live on campus at Duke?

All students are required—to the extent that housing is available—to live on campus for their first three years. We will continue to apply semesters spent in “study away” programs toward the three-year residency requirement. Students are guaranteed the opportunity to live on campus during their fourth year.

Are freshmen allowed to have cars at Duke?

As a first-year student, you’re allowed to bring a vehicle to campus, however, other modes of transportation are available and may be preferable: Biking is encouraged, and designated parking is available. Registering your bike has its advantages. Duke bus and van service is free to students.

No group gatherings indoors. Common rooms and other gathering spaces in residence halls will be closed until further notice. A curfew of 9:00 p.m. will be in place for all undergraduate students on campus.

The University will no longer allow first-year students to choose their own roommates beginning with the Class of 2026. Hopkins will follow peer institutions like Duke University, Vanderbilt University and Stanford University in transitioning to a university-determined roommate assignment process.

Can I walk my dog on Duke campus?

Term I housing move-in is Tuesday, May 11, 2022. Term I housing move-out is Friday, June 24 by 12 pm (noon).
