How many minutes should you soak wet/dry sandpaper before you use it wet?

In order to thoroughly wet the sandpaper, many people recommend soaking it in liquid overnight. This ensures that the paper won’t absorb any more moisture during the sanding process. If you don’t have time to soak the paper overnight, aim for at least 15 minutes of immersion prior to sanding.
What is the purpose of wet sanding?
Wet sanding is a process where we use special sandpaper that is supposed to be wet with water. Very wet. The water acts like a lubricant plus helps remove tiny particles so that the sandpaper does not get clogged and create deep scratches. Granted, the act of sanding does create small scratches.
How do you use wet and dry sandpaper on wood?
Soak your sandpaper of choice in water overnight while your wood is curing. Then, dry-sand your wood with regular sandpaper, starting with 80-grit and working your way up to 180 or until the surface is smooth. After that, dip your wet-sandpaper in soapy water or mineral spirits to lubricate it.
Are you supposed to wet sandpaper?
Dry is excellent for initially smoothing a material, whereas using a wet sandpaper can drastically improve upon the smoothness while removing scratches. Depending on the type of material you’re working with determines which sanding method is better for you. Dry will do most of the hard work that’s usually necessary.
Do you use rubbing compound after wet sanding?
Wet sanding should always be followed by compounding and polishing because it leaves a hazy surface. The sand paper itself causes scratches, so these need to be removed using a less aggressive technique.
Do you sand after first coat of paint?
Sand with fine sandpaper between coats after they dry. Make sure you remove sanding residue before applying additional coats. I recommend three thin coats of paint, but it all depends on the color and consistency. After the final coat of flat paint, sand* lightly with super fine sandpaper.
